How to Make Halloween Cookies

Ingredients:

  • For the cookies:

    • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
    • 3/4 teaspoon salt
    • Food coloring (orange, black, purple, etc., if desired)
  • For the icing:

    • 2 cups powdered sugar
    • 2 tablespoons milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • Food coloring (for decorating)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. Cream the butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.

  4. Combine mixtures: Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until fully combined. If you want to add food coloring, divide the dough and mix in different colors.

  5. Shape the cookies: Roll the dough into balls (about 1 inch in size) and place them on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten them slightly with a fork or your hands.

  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

  7. Make the icing: In a bowl, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk or powdered sugar as needed. Divide into separate bowls and color with food coloring.

  8. Decorate: Once the cookies are completely cool, use the icing to decorate them with Halloween themes—like ghosts, pumpkins, and bats.

  9. Enjoy! Let the icing set before serving or storing. Enjoy your spooky treats!
